Messier 74 (also known as NGC 628) is a spiral galaxy in the constellation of Pisces and smaller than our own galaxy.

M74 is one of the Messier objects with the lowest surface brightness which makes it difficult to capture. The distance is not well known, but seems to be around 32 million light years. In M74, three supernovae were observed in the 21st century - the last one in 2013. The galaxy was discovered by Pierre Méchain in September 1780 and reported to Charles Messier for cataloging.

In the background of the picture there are farther and far-away small galaxies. If you've counted them all, send me a message ;-)
