Dark nebulae in constellation of Cepheus.
This region of the sky in the constellation of Cepheus contains reflection and dark nebulae which have been catalogued by Beverly T. Lynds in his "Catalogue of Bright Nebulae" and "Catalog of Dark Nebulae". LBN 1148 is the main actor in this picture.

But also interesting is an object called Gyulbudaghian Nebula, named after the Armenian astronomer Armen Gyuldubaghian, who discovered it in 1977. This bright, yellowish, fan-shaped structure at about 7 o'clock is a so-called Herbig-Haro object, which means that it is a newborn star (in this case PV Cephei) that emits two gas jets in opposite directions from its north and south poles. In this image we can only see one of the jets, since the other one is mostly obscured by dark molecular dust. This object, which is catalogued with HH215 or GN 20.45.4, actually changes in intensity over only a few years, which is quite fast on astronomical time scales. Fortunately, HH215 was really bright at the time of these exposures, - on images taken not longer than four years ago, the fan is hardly visible.
